{Wedded Wednesday} Priorities

Today I’d like to talk about priorities. They’re important. There happens to be ONE order that will make everything in your life flow just right. Don’t mistake that with make everything easy. We live in a world of sin and will have trials and tribulations. If we put our priorities in the correct order though life will be just a tad bit easier.

One of my favorite scriptures: “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

Putting God first in your life aligns everything else that should follow. If you seek a Him above all other things He will guide the rest along.

When God comes first your spouse comes second. And if you have children they do NOT come second. Many people choose to put their children second over their spouse. Unhappy parents do not result in happy kiddos!

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6: 19-21

So we’ve got God, spouse, children ( if applied )… then what?

Then comes in friends and family. God calls us to love our neighbors, our brothers & sisters. It makes Him very happy to see us pouring out love into the world.

Then comes the church. This means your duties at church. It’s very easy for us to convince ourselves that those duties are for God. The more we do within the church the happier we make Him.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that none can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9

Believe it or not your job comes after that. Yup, it’s kinda way down there at the end. How many of us can honestly say that’s where we actually put it? I am very guilty of allowing the job to take over my life at times. Working from home means I have to write out a schedule and make myself clean the house, take time out with the kids, and take date nights. It may sound silly, but writing things down and making ourselves accountable truly helps us to keep things in the priority they should be.

And waaaaaay waaaaay down there comes finances. WHAT!? That sounds pretty insane to a world based on greed and money. We base our worth on things we have. We base our happiness on things we can do.

“Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:31-33

So I think you can see how messed up our priorities can easily get. I think you can also see how awesome they would be if we just swapped some things around. For most of us finances are right up there at the top, and God is the last thing we turn to when we try to get things right. If we just wake up and choose to start the day with our Dad, the one of fashioned us with His own hands… and trust He has a much greater plan than our small minds can fathom… things just might go a little smoother for us all!

Love you all and thanks for reading!
