Wedded Wednesday sounds like something a girl would make up doesn’t it? Well, you are right. A girl did make it up. MY girl made it up because she cares about how other couples love each other and care for each other. I’m fortunate enough to see her generosity firsthand everyday in the forms of her patience and regular appearances by bacon on my plate. How am I supposed to compete with that? What is her bacon? If we’re strictly talking about foods, her bacon is chocolate (but that’s not the point of this post…you’re losing them Paul).
As a man, it’s sometimes difficult (re: nearly impossible) to understand exactly what she’s thinking or how I can make her happy. There are a few things that I’ve found work regularly however. So guys, go get a pen…
…Got one? Glorious. Now pay attention!
Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her- Ephesians 5:25
Okay! That’s it! I know I said a few, but do we really need more than this? Just read how Christ loved/loves the church and you’ll have all you need. God is patient with us even when we don’t deserve it, He shows mercy to us, He shows us grace when we regularly mess things up, and He is always looking out for our best interests even if we don’t understand the whole picture. This is how we should treat our wives men. Probably the most difficult thing for a man to deal with is 1 Corinthians 13:5 where it says that love “is not self-seeking”. Don’t put yourself first. You should be last. The order of how you should love is God first, wife and family second, EVERYONE ELSE on the planet third, and then you. Just think if you and your wife both did that! How awesome and fulfilling that would be for your household and everyone you ever meet!
Hopefully I didn’t come across as All-Knowing Paul or the Perfect Husband Paul, because that I am not. I’m making mistakes regularly and falling short of who God wants me to be regularly, but armed with the Word He gives us, I know what I need to strive for. Let me know what you think in the comments. If you say nice things, April may let me post again one day!
LOVE this…..very true!
Well said bro! Well said!
