Therefore encourage one another and build each other up… comfort the discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 1 Thessalonians 5:11,14
In the beginning I’m certain it was quite easy for you to praise and lift up your significant other. Faults? What faults? =) He/she was the perfect being. No one could convince you there was any fault in them.
Now you find it harder and harder. As time passes the faults start to come out and you realize they are different from you. Everything doesn’t mesh just right.
And then, we get in a rut. We dig deeper and deeper until that rut is too hard to climb out of. We find our spouse drenched in disrespect, disapproval, and unloved.
But love teaches us to give our spouse room to be themselves. Space.
Marriage was designed by God to as two people living together in flawed imperfection, but who deal with it and encourage one another anyway.
So what do you do?
You let go of unrealistic expectations and you become your spouse’s greatest encourager today. As you do this I promise you that the person God created your spouse to be will emerge with a new confidence and love for you.
Once again, it’s amazing what can happen when your put God first.
